WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF? CHANGING YOUR LIFE WITH WORDS - DAY 148

We all have fears, some of us more than others perhaps but we all have fears.  What are you afraid of?  Heights?  Bugs?  Flying?  Commitment?  Failure?  There are so many possible causes of our fears, but there is usually one solution to overcome any fear.  Make up your mind to conquer your fear, and then put yourself in a situation to do the thing you fear most.  Once you do that, you will sometimes regret the time you wasted letting that particular fear interfere with your life in any way.

Although I don't like bugs or critters that creep or crawl, I think fear of failure is the one that caused me to always play my cards very close to the vest and not take chances.    Fear of failure, fear of disappointing anyone, fear of being reprimanded, fear of losing a job, and fear of financial ruin can wreak havoc in a person's life and prevent  him or her from achieving success in school, in relationships, and in business.

TAKE RISKS!

DO YOU TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY? CHANGING YOUR LIFE WITH WORDS - DAY 108

While there are definitely many serious things in life, much of the time we humans take ourselves way too seriously.  We need to accept the fact that we make mistakes.  We are not always correct in what we say, think or do.  We sometimes are too filled with pride for our own good.  This is sad enough in and of itself, but the bigger problem is that we are raising an entire generation of children with the idea that mistakes are unacceptable.

No one wants to be wrong.  No one wants to apologize.  Customer service employees rarely apologize to their customers who have genuine complaints.  Doctors and dentists rarely apologize to patients for keeping them waiting unreasonable lengths of time as if their time is more valuable than the patients' time.

We learn by making mistakes.  Fear of failure prevents many people and especially children from trying new things.  Stop taking yourself too seriously, and allow your children to not be humiliated or punished for making mistakes.

Stop supporting tabloids and other media whose reporters cannot wait to tear people down and to publicize mistakes.  They fawn over celebrities and then denigrate them in print every chance they get.  What they print or say is not always factual, but that does not stop them.

Today's message is:

LIGHTEN UP!

HOW DOES LIFE GO BY? CHANGING YOUR LIFE WITH WORDS - DAY 94

We are all given the same number of minutes and hours in a day and days in a week.  Yet somehow there are people who accomplish so much more than you do in that same amount of time.  Why do you think that is?  Is it because you don't manage your time?  Is it because you have fear of failure so you delay getting started?  Is it because you don't know what you want to do or how to do it?  Is it because you spend too much time on minutiae and avoid the big projects?  Is it because you are a perfectionist who is never finished with anything because it is never quite "perfect" or "good enough" for you?

There are people who foolishly fritter away their money and other assets, and there are people who just as foolishly fritter away their time.  They treat it as if there is an endless supply of minutes and hours which we all know is not the case.  When time is gone it cannot be retrieved so make the most of your time.  Be aware of how you are spending it.

If you know what an hourglass is or a minute timer you know that the sand falls through the glass rather rapidly so it is a good reminder of how fast the time of your life is going.  Don't delay, get started, fulfill your dreams, achieve your goals, and enjoy the process.

How does life go by?  It goes:

MINUTE BY MINUTE

HOW GREAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE? CHANGING YOUR LIFE WITH WORDS - DAY 73

Are you a person who shoots for the moon when you set goals?  Are you a person who sets your sights much lower so you won't be disappointed?  Are you a person who sets no goals at all for fear of failure or of being ridiculed by others?  Well, it is time to tell yourself that you have the ability to be what you want, do what you want, achieve what you want if you are willing to do the work needed.  You may not have all of the resources at the moment that you need to accomplish everything, but put your mind to things and do everything you can.  Somehow the rest will come to you so things fall into place.

Don't settle for doing nothing.  Don't settle for being mediocre or just getting by.  Don't be afraid of failing. Choose to ignore what others may say to discourage you (we all have naysayers in our lives whether they are family members, co-workers, neighbors, or even people whom we call friends).  The most important person to believe in you is you!

Today's message is:

BE AMAZING!

IF NOT NOW, WHEN? - CHANGING YOUR LIFE WITH WORDS - DAY 10

Do you find yourself waiting for the right time to do something significant?  Do you wait until the beginning of a new month to start something new?  Do you postpone starting a diet, a business, or a project until some future time when you think it will be the "right time" to do it?

From personal experience, I know what it is like to be a world-class procrastinator.  I excel at putting things off until the kids are older, until the house is furnished, until I have the time, until I can afford it, until my health is better, and on and on it goes.  What I have learned is that procrastination is in reality fear of failure.  What if I cannot stick to the diet?  What if I don't have enough money?  What if my health prevents me from following through on commitments? What if, what if, what if...............you can drive yourself crazy playing the what if game.

So listen up.............the old saying goes, "There is no time like the present."  It is true so today's message is:

My time is NOW!

When you find yourself putting off changing your life or starting the pursuit of your dream, remind yourself that your time is now so seize the moment.   I know you can do it................I have and so can you.
